The Next New Thing

The next big new media craze will have to do with fingerprint authentication in order to create, make any modifications or deletion of accounts on social media sites. This will cut back on the fraud cases that have been rampant in the social media world. This will also serve a purpose for the usage on making payment over the internet to secure sites that have your digital fingerprint in their database. By curbing the ability of hackers to remotely make changes, the next step to authenticate physically will cut the hacker business for a lot of businesses and users of social sites. Payment for things such as electronics even at specific consumer stores would help get people in and out faster. The savings from cutting the cost of cash registers, employees would be substantial.

Making payments at the gas station can also be a benefit. Paying with your card and then as a second check, you scan your thumb as the confirmation measure. This form of new media is being used for computers in terms of authenticating who you are in order to login to the computer, but not to confirm who you are on the net.

  1. I'm quite impressed with this idea for the simple fact that it can help diminish the lack of authenticity within these societies. A fingerprint system would be an efficient way of putting this 'craze' to it's demise. However, the only issue that may come about is the expense of this device.

    1. You are right. That is one of a few issues with this idea but once it goes through the testing phase they should be able to work out some of those issues first hand.

  2. Wow this concept is amazing because this can help with security and approving safe transactions. I've learned in my computer audit class about multifunction authentications. This means that the authentication is processed with "something you have, something you know". I believe that this idea of biometric fingerprint scanning and inputting a password is a very reliable and safe way to process transactions.

  3. You're idea is quite impressive. I think its a brilliant idea to have fingerprint authorization with case sensitive situations. Like you mentioned it would be important for making purchases, logging on to social media websites such as Facebook which provides a lot of information about yourself. Do you think there can be a problem with integrating this technology for everyone?

Yes of course people who want to protect themselves will pay the extra for the fingerprint authentication machine but this would also mean that you would have to submit your fingerprint to Facebook, credit card companies, and other companies so they can authenticate it. If you are giving out your fingerprint to these companies wouldn't this be the same problem as we are at right now. These fingerprints can also be stolen from the companies servers and may even cause more threat against you.

I'm certainly not trying to go against your suggestion but I'm just thinking of the precautions which would be needed before implementing this system. Companies would also have to spend extra for this process but it not that costly if you were to compare the safety it would provide their customers. The main problem is still the threat of having the fingerprint stolen when you store it or have it saved on Facebook's server or other credit card companies' servers.

    1. Creating a highly subsidized cost for companies to pay would actually save these companies a lot of money based on the cost it takes to recovery, track down who stole the information, paper cost to all their customers, etc. which I'm sure would be way more than that what this theoretical company would charge for this finger printing system.

As for Facebook, you could alternate the finger that needs to be used in order to authenticate the system. Maybe use a thumb one day, ring finger the next, 2 fingers need to be scanned, pinkie finger used for one week and any other variation of finger combinations that can be read.

  4. hacking n fraud are huge issues in todays modern world. That is why I think this is an exceptional idea! I agree with manan about having certian issues related to this concept, but it would just mean taking the time to work out the "bugs" to make this a great new media!

  5. Your idea is very interesting. I do believe with fingerprint authentication would be helpful with creating social networking accounts. It would eliminate the hackers that may use your personal information for their use and keep your account safe with fingerprint authentication.
