For my project I will be examining Social Networking and how the loss of privacy is eminent whether we like it or not. I will carefully examine the different social websites that exist and what the privacy policies are. How we agree to the terms of these sites but end up giving up a huge part of our privacy to do so.
During my research I hope to uncover many positive and negatives aspects that affect us on a daily basis economically, socially and technologically. I also look to provide several ways to protect our privacy by taking certain precautions of our own.
This would be an interesting project and analysis. As you have mentioned, there are positives and negatives, but in my opinion, I believe there are more negatives. My number one reasoning for this is because of privacy.
ReplyDeleteThere have been cases of identity thefts, cyber bullying, stalking, and even spam solicitations.
Economically, speaking from experience as a supervisor from a financial company, employees spend a lot of time going on social networking sites and company resources are wasted.
Here's a link that would help you:

Good Luck!
I totally agree with the comment about it having a more negative connotation. I will hopefully be showing people how they can better protect themselves on the internet and on social sites so that their privacy gets preserved as promised by these sites. Although this is still an illusion at least it transitions the risk onto the social site instead of you when things go wrong.
DeleteI'll hopefully shed some light on things you should and should not do in the work place, things to preserve your information in the case of a virus attack and more.
Thanks for the link. Should come in handy for my bibliography as well and good luck to you as well!
Hi Erik!
ReplyDeleteI really like your project topic, as it is a very timely subject. Moreover, I am sure it concerns most of us in this section of CIS 3810. I think you might want to narrow it down as it is a very broad topic (and privacy policies tend to be extremely long). However, I am curious to see which pros and cons you are going to talk about, and what advice you will have to protect our identity!
Good luck in your reasearch, and on your term paper!
